Verbolten Media Day-Busch Gardens Williamsburg |
Verbolten, the new coaster for Busch Gardens Williamsburg, was unveiled to the media this morning. Verbolten is the only coaster in the United States with what is called a free-fall drop! What's more, Verbolten is the costliest and most anticipated expansion in Busch Gardens history, which dates back to the mid 70's. On ride video from 'Apollos Chariot Worker' and filmed WITH PERMISSION from Busch Gardens Williamsburg. This is an awesome coaster, and tomorrow afternoon, we will be live on the ride! VIDEO LINK

While we don't know what is coming yet, I'm just thrilled to know SOMETHING is coming! http://www.mercurynews.com/breaking-news/c...er-cost-500-000Not only is Hurricane one of my most dislike coasters, whatever replaces it will surely be awesome. I am REALLY hoping for a coaster, but it's too soon to tell. They keep using "ride" in this story, but I'm sure they're being intentionally vague. The footprint is small (as is the park) for anything big, but I can imagine a Gerstlauer or Maurer Sohne squeezing in. And who's to say the entire ride needs to be contained on this pad. If I had to bet, a spinning wild mouse. Whatever it is, I hope it's something unique. This is an amazing park, and deserves something special.

It's official: http://blog.al.com/businessnews/2012/04/ne..._to_expand.htmlThe ride section of the park is being closed down, and owners are focusing on the waterpark side. Supposedly that was where most guests spent most of their time, and it much cheaper to operate than the rides side. It's understandable, especially considering how awful most of the rest of the park was (never actually went to the waterpark myself). The only really downside is the unknown fate of Rampage - one of the best wooden coasters ever created. It made put this park on the map, and was worth all the awfulness to get to ride. I have fond memories. It's my #6 wooden coaster.
